Join the new PIB partnership for Sustainable Airport Development in Malaysia following the covenant signing
On 25 June, AeroNL and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) officially signed the covenant for the Partners for International Business (PIB) Sustainable Airport Development in Malaysia programme. The covenant was signed by Hassan Elwali on behalf of RVO and Paul Eijssen on behalf of AeroNL, marking the official start of a three-year public-private partnership to strengthen Dutch-Malaysian cooperation in airport development.
The signing took place during a milestone day for AeroNL, alongside the organisation’s General Members Assembly, the celebration of 50 years of NAG and the launch of its new brand identity, marking the transition from NAG-LRN to AeroNL.
A long-term partnership for the Malaysian market
The Partners for International Business (PIB) programme is an initiative of the Dutch government that helps Dutch companies, knowledge institutions and government organisations work together in strategically important international markets. By combining industry expertise with government support and the network of the Dutch Embassy, PIB clusters strengthen the international position of Dutch businesses while building long-term partnerships with local stakeholders.
Malaysia is entering a new phase of airport development, with €2–3 billion expected to be invested in airport expansion and modernisation between 2025 and 2035. At the same time, the country is accelerating its transition towards smarter and more sustainable airports, creating significant opportunities for Dutch companies with expertise in aviation, infrastructure and airport technology.
The PIB Sustainable Airport Development in Malaysia cluster is coordinated by AeroNL, in partnership with RVOand supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Malaysia.
The multi-year public-private partnership brings together Dutch companies, knowledge institutions and government organisations to strengthen the Dutch aviation sector’s position in Malaysia and build long-term strategic partnerships. The cluster currently consists of AviaVox – Artificial Voice Systems, NACO – Netherlands Airport Consultants, To70 Aviation, Vanderlande, TKH Airport Solutions, and All About Signs International (AAS), representing expertise across airport planning, operations, technology, safety and innovation.
Malaysia is actively seeking solutions that contribute to the development of future-ready airports. Priority areas include Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, waste reduction and recycling, rainwater harvesting and reuse, as well as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI).
Programme activities
Over the next three years, the PIB programme will focus on:
- Trade missions to and from Malaysia
- Participation in leading international aviation exhibitions
- Tailored business matchmaking between Dutch and Malaysian organisations
- Knowledge exchange between governments, industry and research institutes
- Joint promotion of the Dutch aviation sector through the NL Branding programme.
PTE Asia
The cluster’s first joint activity will be participation in Passenger Terminal Expo Asia, taking place on 23–24 September 2026 in Singapore. Ahead of the exhibition, the delegation will visit Malaysia to meet key stakeholders, strengthen relationships and explore new collaboration opportunities.
